The 327th Infantry traces its history to the 164th Infantry brigade of the 82nd Infantry Division,where it was activated on the 17th of september 1917 at fort Gordon,Georgia. The 327th Infantry Regiment first saw combat in WW1, in the St. Miliel offensive,and also fought in the great Meuse-Argonne offensive,also defending the Lorraine front in France,and was also the first American Expeditionary force to reach and pierce the formidable Kriemhilde Stellung. On the 15th August 1942, the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.In June 1944,the 327th was comitted to combat in the Normandy Invasion operating from Carentan to secure vital areas inland from the invasion beaches. They also participated in operation Market Garden the Airborne invasion of Holland,and the heroic defense of bastogne,Belgium

A brief history about the 327th Infantry.

In june 1965 the 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry departed for Vietnam,and conducted operations in Trung Luong,Dak To,An Khe,Phan Rang and the Ashau,in I and II corps.During the Vietnam era the 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry consisted of four designated companies, H&HC, A, B, and C. But in the spring of 1968 two additional companies, D and E were added.The 2/327th Infantry was the last element of the 101st Airborne Division to leave southeast Asia thus distinguishing them as having had the longest continuous service in Vietnam of any combat Battalion in the U.S. Army. After over 6 years of combat the 2/327th Infantry returned to fort Campbell on the 24th of April 1972.
